I have 3 kids and they have been going through this unending cycle of headlice. I get rid of them and they get reinfested over and over. I have tried NIX and R %26amp; C and I vacuum the whole house everytime and wash all the bedding, comb they're hair till my eyes are crossing, boil hairbrushes and take away all their stuffed toys ....and they come back again. I bought this natural remedy off the internet that had you put baby oil in their hair every night and they're supposed to sleep in in every night for a month. After a few days or so the kids couldn't take it anymore. They said the oil was cold and uncomfortable. What to do? Do you know of a great lice treatment? I saw an ad for licex. Does anyone know if it really works?
What is the most effective way to get rid of lice for good?
If your children go to school/daycare, that could be the source of the head lice. Call their schools and tell them that your kids have a lice problem, and should disinfect all the stuffed toys, costumes, and combs, etc.
And, like MLF said, it could be your vacuum if you didn't change the bag after you cleaned your home.
Keep vacuuming all material items in your home ( Sofas, Beds, etc.), and hair products.
Check everyone in your home, even your self, for head lice.
Another problem may be that your not washing bed linens right, a good water temp for killing lice is at least 140°F. Dry them in the hot cycle in the dryer.
I never saw anything for Licex, so I don't know if the medicine really works.
Sorry If I wrote too much, Good Luck!

Here is what I would strongly recommend:
Buy a good finetooth metal comb (licender/ licemeister/terminator)
Buy a good thick conditioner (pantene)
Smother hair with conditioner and comb thru hair taking thin sections of hair at a time
Repeat every day for 3-4 days
Remember a thorough comb out takes at least 2 hours
Also check all family members and do a quick comb out to be 110% sure
Wash all combs and other hair accessories regularly
Also change bed sheets and pillow covers for the next 3 days
Watch the comb out video at www.headlice.org to learn how to do an effective comb out
If you follow all these instructions dilligently, I promise you will get rid of headlice in 3-4 days
Once you get rid of them, pl avoid head to head contact and also sharing of combs and other hair stuff with others who may have them (friends and other family members)
If all fails, please seek help from a professional nitpicker. You can find a listing for one in your area at www.licesolutions.org
Good luck!

Reply:The problem may be your vacuum cleaner bag. Do you get rid of it immediately after you vacuum your carpet? The lice may be re-infecting your home from the vacuum cleaner.
Also, you need to shampoo your carpet and furniture, and wash all bed linens and clothes with very hot water. If that doesn't work, you need to call a pest control company.
Reply:I will summarise the recommendations you:
Combing helps prevent any infection from becoming established.
As you know, it is recommended to comb the hair twice daily, preferably using a fine-toothed comb. The use of a hair conditioner aids combing and the lice have more difficulty clinging on. Combing injures the louse and it cannot breed and will die. It is advisable to check weekly for head lice by using the detector comb available from the chemist and combing the hair all the way forward from the nape of the neck. If head lice are present they will become attached to the comb. If paper is spread underneath, lice that have become damaged by combing will fall from the hair and become obvious.
Shampoos are inefficient treatment as they do not kill lice eggs, lotions are recommended.
Only those with head lice should be treated and the lotion allowed to dry naturally and not with a hair dryer. Chlorine in swimming baths may lessen the effect of some lotions used and the directions should be followed closely. After treatment, and while the hair is still wet, a fine-toothed comb may be used to remove dead eggs. Also after treatment, combing damp hair daily with a detector comb will enhance treatment by removing any lice emerging from eggs.
If all those infected are not identified and receive treatment, the problem can become a self-perpetuating one.
