Multiple CHOICE!!?
2. C
Reply:A, D %26amp; D
Reply:I bet that this is homework for you. You don't want to do it. but here is number 1. b. 2. c. 3. c.

For number 3, just infer what pheromone means. All these are easy and I don't know a thing it means.
Reply:you could have looked these up on the internet.

1A-2B-3C
Reply:1 d

2 a

3 no idea
Reply:lol.. judging by the number of wrong answers given you might have been better off researching your homework yourself rather than asking it here.

1 A

2. A

3. C

if you want proof:

1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Origin_of_b...

archaeopteryx. used to be a contender for the ancestor of birds, but there are good reasons to believe that archaeopteryx was a dead-end evolutionary product.

2. basic science. Everyone should know this.

3. elimination gives you C
Reply:1 is tricky... I'll go with A because B is the first known bird, while A is where they evolved from.

2 - B

3 - C (which you can just eliminate all the other choices cause headbutting has nothing to do with pheromones.)

Alesse-28 Oral Uses

This combination hormone medication is used to prevent pregnancy. It contains 2 hormones, a progestin and an estrogen. These hormones prevent pregnancy by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation). They also change the womb and cervical mucus, making it more difficult for an egg to meet sperm (fertilization) or for the fertilized egg to attach to the wall of the womb (implantation).

Besides preventing pregnancy, birth control pills have been shown to help make your periods more regular, decrease blood loss and painful periods (dysmenorrhea), and decrease your risk of ovarian cysts.

Use of this medication does not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases (e.g., HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia).

How to use Alesse-28 Oral

Read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using this product and each time you get a refill. The leaflet contains very important information on when to take your pills and what to do if you miss a dose. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medication by mouth once daily or as directed by your doctor. Pick a time of day that is easy for you to remember, and take your pill at the same time each day.

It is very important to continue taking this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. With certain brands of birth control pills, the amount of estrogen and progestin in each active tablet will vary at different times in the cycle. Therefore, it is very important that you follow the package instructions to find the first tablet, start with the first tablet in the pack, and take them in the correct order. Do not skip any doses. Pregnancy is more likely if you miss pills, start a new pack late, or take your pill at a different time of the day than usual.

Taking this medication after your evening meal or at bedtime may help if you have stomach upset or nausea with the medication. You may choose to take this medication at another time of day that is easier for you to remember. No matter what dosing schedule you use, it is very important that you take this medication at the same time each day, 24 hours apart. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

Your pill pack contains 21 pills with active medication. It may also contain 7 reminder pills with no medication. Take one active pill (with hormones) once daily for 21 days in a row. If you are using a product with 28 tablets, take an inactive pill once daily for 7 days in a row after you have taken the last active pill unless otherwise directed by your doctor. If you are using a product with 21 tablets, do not take any tablets for 7 days unless otherwise directed by your doctor. You should have your period during the fourth week of the cycle. After you have taken the last inactive tablet in the pack or gone 7 days without taking an active tablet, start a new pack the next day whether or not you have your period. If you do not get your period, consult your doctor.

If this is the first time you are using this medication and you are not switching from another form of hormonal birth control (e.g., patch, other birth control pills), take the first tablet in the pack on the first Sunday following the beginning of your menstrual period or on the first day of your period. If your period begins on a Sunday, begin taking this medication on that day. For the first cycle of use only, use an additional form of non-hormonal birth control (e.g., condoms, spermicide) for the first 7 days to prevent pregnancy until the medication has enough time to work. If you start on the first day of your period, you do not need to use back-up birth control the first week.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for information about how to switch from other forms of hormonal birth control (e.g., patch, other birth control pills) to this product. If any of this information is unclear, consult the Patient Information Leaflet or your doctor or pharmacist.

Smoking cigarettes/using tobacco while using hormonal birth control (pill/patch/ring) increases your risk of heart problems and stroke. Do not smoke. The risk of heart problems increases with age (especially in women over 35) and with frequent smoking (15 or more cigarettes a day).
Reply:You say you've had 2 periods since then?...You cannot have periods when you are pregnant, so you must not be.

I think all pills are pretty much 99.9% affective, but there is still that chance that next time, you could get pregnant, so please, please be really careful, okay?

If you ever need to be sure, buy the at home pregnancy tests.
Reply:if you've had your period, you are not pregnant. but if you want more proof, you can always buy a pregnancy test to reassure yourself
Reply:A low dose birth control pill is just what it sounds like: a smaller dosage than had been used in earlier products. Presumably, if your doctor prescribed it, it should do the job. If you have had two periods since last intercourse, you are not pregnant, and with the double protection of condoms and pills it is extremely unlikely that you would become so.

MGIB rates in regards to U.S. military veterans?

Here goes.

I was active duty Air Force from 2002-2006. I was wondering, while the MGIB rates and such fluctuate, am I entitled only to the rate I guess I must've separated with (the October 2005 rate) or does the most current rate apply to any veteran, regardless of what month/year they separated?

Also, since I've separated, I should be looking at the "Basic Institutional Rates for persons with remaining entitlement under Chapter 34 of Title 38, U.S.C. Chapter 30 Category II rates effective 10-01-2005" on the https://www.gibill.va.gov site, right? I'm not so sure myself!

Lastly, could anyone tell me what rate I should be looking at if I were planning on enrolling into an online college sort of thing? Both for an actual degree and for just regular courses?

Thanks in advance for the help!

MGIB rates in regards to U.S. military veterans?
You get the payment rate that is posted on the VA site you have. Your entitled to the current rate, it's not based on when you separated.

Oh and if you are 30% + disabled you are also entitled to Vocational Rehab. The program pay full tuition and cost and they also give you a monthly living allowance depending on your student status (full-time or 1/4 time). You should really speak to your Veterans Representative at the school you are planning on attending. They'll give you all the information you need. If they are of no help than contact a Vet Center or the VA.

Hepatitis question?

If a person has, for example, hepatitis B, can he/she take the hepatitis A or C immunization shot? Will it be effective?

Hepatitis question?
I dont think A+C=B
Reply:there is no vaccine for hepatitis c.

if a person has hepatitis c and is thinking about a hepatitis b vaccine, only about 48 percent of those under these circumstances will develop antibodies against hepatitis b-scientist are not quite sure why this happens.

i had hcv from age of 8 (if not longer) until the age of 34. i responded to antiviral chemotherapy.

i refuse the vaccine for hepatitis b and a.

of course i am not high risk for hepatitis b and hepatitis a-i will take my chances.

as for being infected with hepatitis b and getting the hepa vaccine? ask your doctor, only he knows what he feels would be best for his individual patients, sometimes there are issues related to having hepatitis b that may just interfere with developing antibodies for hep a.

good luck!
Reply:You can be vaccinated for hep A and it will be effective for the hep A virus. There is currently no vaccine for hep C although there is one in development with ongoing clinical trials.
Reply:In the USA there is only Hep A and Hep B immunization and others under research/studies.

If a person has hepatitis B, they can take the hepatitis A immunization. Each different immunization protects for a certain type of hepatitis virus.

The USA is still working on the hepatitis C immunization; however while working at Madigan Army Medical Center. I had military egyptian officer/Immunologist come to train in my department of pathology. He told me that Egypt has many people with the Hepatitis C Virus. He also told me that they do have a vaccine to prevent it. I believed him.

HCV belongs to the genus Hepacivirus in the family Flaviviridae. There are 6 HCV genotypes and more than 100 subtypes. There are more details below....
Reply:Yes, you can get the vaccine for Hepatitis A and will it prevent that disease even if you already have Hep B. There is no immunization for hep C.
Reply:there is no immunization shot for hepatitis C..if you fall into the risk category you should ASK to be tested!

Have you.........

received a blood transfusion before 1992?

ever shared drug paraphernalia (included straws even once)?

ever been stuck by a used blood needle?

been on kidney dialysis?

had a tattoo or body piercing?

had sexual activity that involves contact with blood

shared personal care items (razors, toothbrushes, etc) with other people?

have or had acrylic nails?

If you answered YES to any of these questions you may have been exposed to the hepatitis C virus.

Get Tested!

Hepatitis C is four times more prevalent in the US than HIV
Reply:No, each strand of hepatitis has a different 'make up'. An immunization is only for a specialized disease or illness. You wouldn't give a tetanus shot for someone that has chicken pox or measles. It just won't work that way.

Good luck finding what you need

FYI: there are 5 strands of hepatitis, weird huh
Reply:It would be wise to take the shots. Hep A, B %26amp; C are all different strains.

What did the northerners conclude after the first Battle of Bull Run?
a
Reply:I hate doing your homework for you but I don't want you getting confused. The Anaconda Strategy was about taking the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers along with a total blockade of the ports along The Confederacy's Atlantic and Gulf shores. That has nothing to do with Bull Run.

The embarrassing defeat of the Union Army at First Bull Run(aka "First Manassas" to the Southerners) proved that it was going to be a long hard war fought against an enemy that they had underestimated.

It was a wake-up call for the Union similar to what the British saw at Bunker Hill during the American Revolution. In that fight the British thought the rebellion by a bunch of colonial amateurs would be easy to put down.Although the Continental Army lost that battle to the British they caused severe casualties to the British regiments proving that the fights would not be easily won.

Economics Homework help, please?

Question: In the midst (middle) of a recession

A. Fed's monetary policy to end the recession is highly effective as banks start loaning out funds

B. Fed's monetary policy to end the recession is highly effective as the public borrows more funds

C. Fed's monetary policy to end the recession is not effective

Economics Homework help, please?
I believe the answer is C. If it were a recession banks would not help the economy by loaning out money. IT would only make matters worse. How will the people be able t pay back these loans. There is no way to determine how long the recession may be.

Equilibrium question?

Assume that the market for roses is in equilibrium, and that carnations are a close substitue. One day, a disease strikes the carnations, though the roses remain unharmed.

a. Determine what will happen to the price and quanity in the carnation market as a result of the carnation disease.

b. Determine what will happen to price and quantity in the rose market as a result of the carnation disease.

c. Suppose the government places an effective price ceiling on roses. Using a supply/demand diagram, illustrate the result in price and quantity for the roses.

Equilibrium question?
Sounds like homework...think it out.
Reply:Well, I'm no economist, but here goes.

a) The price would go up for carnations as there would be a limited supply of healthy carnations, thus the price would rise. Low supply, same demand, high price.

b) Again, not an economist here, but because the carnation is the substitute for the rose, I don't believe anything would change for the rose at all. Supply of roses is the same, demand is the same, so I don't think anything would change for the roses.

c)A price ceiling might get the suppliers of the rose to not want to have a large supply of them, so the quantity of the roses on the market would go down somewhat, which would cause the price to rise, and thus, the roses would leave the equilibrium they were in.
Reply:a. How the disease effects the quantity of carnations is a biolgy question, not economics. I think we are supposed to assume the disease means fewer are produced or that the costs to produce increase. Either way, the disease is likely to cause the price of carnations to increase.

b. Since roses are a suitable substitute for carnations, the demand for roses will increase with higher carnation prices, initially increasing the price for roses as well, but also likely to lead to an increase in rose production (unless the carnation disease is a one time occurance- how the f**k are we supposed to know what the disease is and how it affects carnations?)

c. The price ceilling, if set below market prices, will increase demand for roses. If the price ceiling is below market price for carnations and carnations do not have a similar ceiling, demand for carnations will decrease and demand for roses will increase. If the price ceiling is set below cost, supply will decrease and a black market will develop for roses. If the price ceiling is below market, but above cost, production will increase to meet the demand, but only the low cost suppliers will be able to afford to expand, creating consolidation in the market.

Does spotting while on Birth Control increase my chances of getting pregnant?

I haven't missed any pills, and I take all the pills at the same time during the day. I know B.C. isn't like 100% percent effective, but does spotting decrease it's effectiveness ?

Does spotting while on Birth Control increase my chances of getting pregnant?
No it doesn't, it is one of the normal side effects, especially if you are in the first few months of taking it. I know from personal experience.

Birth control issue. please help?

The month b4 I was taking antibiotics for a cold, so I wasn't having sex, b/c my pill wasn't fully effective. Then I started the next pack and figured it was okaay, and had sex. My pill has a week rule. So if it was uneffective the month b4 due to anti biotics, and then I didn't wait a week for the next pack to take effect, did it still protect?

Birth control issue. please help?
Sorry that truth frees is full of CRAP up to their eyeballs. Birth control doesn't cause abortions. It prevents pregnancy from even happening. Anyhow, to answer your question, if you did not use an alternate form of birth control while you were waiting the 7 days for your birth control to become effective again, then yes, there is a possibility that pregnancy could have occurred. If you are worried, you can take a home pregnancy test.
Reply:Did you know that birth control pills cause what is known as unknown abortion. justa tid bit for you.

Actualy what birth control pills do is prevent ovulation, but 15 to 20 % of the time it still takes place so the ABORTIFACIENT called birth control pills (which is realy what their category is, they are not true contraceptives) have a back up mechanism which makes the Uterian wall hostile to the CONCEIVED embryo and starves it to death. yes birth control pills cause what is known as unknown abortion. ~ Peace!
Reply:Sounds good, you would be protected at the 99% effectiveness of the pill.

Don't forget the only thing that is 100% is abstinence.

It is C.

Lower temperature makes molecules speed decrease (because it is that speeding that makes temperature high or low).

Fewer effective collisions because the slow speed ones have less energy to give up at the collision.

Some bacteria have tiny hairs covering the body called silia aiding in movement. Other have a single hair, or maybe two, this is called a flagellum.

One important main role of macrophage is the removal of necrotic debris and dust in the case of the lungs. Removing dead cell material is important in chronic inflammation as the early stages of inflammation are dominated by neutrophil granulocytes, which are ingested by macrophages if they come of age (see CD-31 for a description of this process.)

The removal of dust and necrotic tissue is to a greater extent handled by fixed macrophages, which will stay at strategic locations such as the lungs, liver, neural tissue, bone, spleen and connective tissue, ingesting foreign materials such as dust and pathogens, calling upon wandering macrophages if needed.

When a macrophage ingests a pathogen, the pathogen becomes trapped in a food vacuole, which then fuses with a lysosome. Within the lysosome, enzymes and toxic oxygen compounds digest the invader. However, some bacteria, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, have become resistant to these methods of digestion. Macrophages can digest more than 100 bacteria before they finally die due to their own digestive compounds.

Macrophages are involved in cell-mediated immunity along with NK cells and cytotoxic T cells.

After digesting a pathogen, a macrophage will present the antigen (a molecule, most often a protein found on the surface of the pathogen, used by the immune system for identification) of the pathogen to a corresponding helper T cell. The presentation is done by integrating it into the cell membrane and displaying it attached to a MHC class II molecule, indicating to other white blood cells that the macrophage is not a pathogen, despite having antigens on its surface.

Eventually the antigen presentation results in the production of antibodies that attach to the antigens of pathogens, making them easier for macrophages to adhere to with their cell membrane and phagocytize. In some cases, pathogens are very resistant to adhesion by the macrophages. Coating an antigen with antibodies could be compared to coating something with Velcro to make it stick to fuzzy surfaces.
Reply:1. they haven't got any of the characteristics of life, mainly they can only reproduce by hijacking another cell

2. Antibiotics are effective ONLY against bacteria. If c. is supposed to be "pathogens" then bacteria re pathogens

3. No. Only RNA

5. Nuclear membrane

6. A white blood cell.

What happens, do you think, if America retreats from Iraq as many Democrats are politicizing for?

Clifford May offers in Imagining Defeat, What happen if America retreats from Iraq? 26 Jul 2007, "For the sake of argument, imagine that opponents of the war in Iraq are right. Suppose that our military — designed to confront a different enemy, on a different battlefield, in a different era — has met its match. Suppose that the war against al Qaeda in Iraq, as well as against various Iranian-backed Shia militias, can not be won, and that staying on in Iraq can do nothing to protect America’s vital national-security interests."

"If that’s true, we must prepare for defeat in Afghanistan as well. There is no reason to believe that the strategy being used against us in Iraq will be less effective 1,400 miles further east." (C May)

What do you think? Or can someone provide what so many Democrats have assessed would happen after a retreat from Iraq and Afghanistan?

What happens, do you think, if America retreats from Iraq as many Democrats are politicizing for?
Well first off I don't think we should have went to Iraq in the first place but we are there now.

When we leave - if the place is still in chaos - everybody who took us at our word and tried to be out friend is going to get it in the neck.

When we left Nam lots of people went to reeducation camps - lots more just got whacked. Iraq is going to be a lot worse. The public knows just who was in the army - the police - and the government. If the place falls apart they are going to be very lucky just to get the reeducation camp.

Plus if we don't pull out in an orderly manner we are going to have to leave half our crap burning in the desert.
Reply:the main forces in Iraq today are the Iranian backed militias, they Sunni alqida backed militias and the foreign occupation forces. the elected Iraqi government already has close ties with Iran. sure the USA led invasion of Iraq is highly controversial and ma by unnecessary but right now the us has to take some hard decisions either they stay in Iraq and face the resulting division in the us community or retreat and the result in this case would be an all out civil war in Iraq which would certainly lead to Iraq becoming under Iranian influence because it has a shiat majority. thus, America's worst enemy today will become stronger than it has every been. therefor, it is the choice between staying and losing more and more men every day or leaving and having to face a much tougher enemy tomorrow. so the us will face some serious losses either way
Reply:May deliberately mischaracterizes the nature of the Democrats' opposition. This is called 'begging the question'. He also creates a -false dichotomy- by suggesting there are only two alternatives.

I think it's clear to most of us what what we're doing in Iraq is just not working. If the Bush admin. wants to win, it's up to them to back off, to come up with a new plan. But they don't, do they? They only keep insisting that we -are- winning, that we are making progress. No wonder they have no credibility.

Any capable manager should be able to discern that a program isn't working, to pull back and reconsider, and to try something different. Bush's plan seems to be simply to keep the war going until the Democrats take it out of his hands, so he can blame them for our defeat.
Reply:Obviously when the US gave up on fighting Communists in Korea and Vietnam, the Communists invaded America - is this not historical fact?
Reply:not only dems my friend, many wise people feel that way. what happens is that a lot of people will live, a lot of money will be saved, and maybe something beneficial will be done in this country.
Reply:70% of the country wants to leave Iraq so they are not all liberals. I haven't heard anybody say they wanted to leave Afghanistan. Iraq is in a civil war. About 1% of these people are Al Qaida. How can we be defeated in another country's civil war? Should the Brittish have come and stopped our civil war? How would they have done that?
Reply:We are going leave, we always were going to eventually leave, and whenever we leave (or left) all that we would have accomplished is creating a huge and dangerous mess.

All anyone had to do was read the book Bush’s father wrote in 1998 (‘A World Transformed’). In it, he - Bush the Wiser - explains why invading Iraq and removing Hussein from power would:

1.result in America becoming stuck in a no-win Vietnam-like quagmire;

2.result in America losing its friends and allies;

3.result in America losing its standing in the world and its ability to lead and influence international political events;

4.result in jeopardizing America’s own interests in the Middle East, undoing decades of intense effort to put ourselves in a position to be politically effective in the region;

5.result in increased hardship for both those who live in the Middle East and America’s own citizens; and

6.further destabilize the already volatile region with the possibility of causing regional (or greater) armed conflict.

If Bush had listened to his real father instead of the imaginary one he hears in his head we would not be in this mess.

The head of the CIA recently listed – in order – the sources of the current violence in Iraq.

They are:

1.) the insurgency

2.) sectarian strife

3.) criminality

4.) general anarchy

5.) al-Qaeda

http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/ge...

Al-Qaeda ranks below everyday riff-raff (criminality and general anarchy) as a source of violence in Iraq. Ignoring ther fact that Bush is lying (continuing his 6-year-long historical pattern of lying) his butt off about the situation in Iraq, the fact that he is hung-up on the factor least responsible for the problem might partially explain why every decision he makes leads to another failure.
Reply:If we pull out of Iraq with out defeating the terrorists. they will follow us home. Not that they arent already here. But it will get worse. I would rather fight them there than here.
Reply:I really don't think anyone knows what will happen over there when the US pulls out but in reality peace will never happen in the middle east. When they run out of oil or we dont need it anymore they will become another Africa, full of poverty, death and starvation

S What is the nominal rate which is compounded semi annually, yields an effective rate?

a.4%

b.8%

c.10%

how to solve this, what are the possible solutions , thanks in advance

Find the nominal rate which is compounded semi annually, yield an?
The way to equate different compounding rates is to conduct a simple thought experiment: If I invested at a particular rate with a particular compounding, how much money would I have after one year.

With semi-annual compounding, I have (1 + semi-rate/2) after 1/2 year and (1 + semi-rate/2)^2 after one year. If I invest at the effective annual rate for one year, I get (1 + eff-rate) after one year. (That's the definition of the effective annual rate.)

Setting these two equations equal to each other, I get:

(1 + semi-rate/2)^2 = (1 + eff-rate) which implies that

semi-rate = 2*((1 + eff-rate)^0.5 - 1).

So a is 3.96%

And b is 7.85%

And c is 9.76%

Hairy butt?

Ok its kinda embarrassing for me to ask and i am certainly not joking cause its a problem to me which bothers me to the level where its beyond manageable. =[

1) I have hairy butt crack and it really makes me feel uncomfortable %26lt;%26lt; And by this i mean "really". sort of itchy, sweaty, burn, wet, irritation %26lt;%26lt; it just kills man i cannot explain the feeling its so annoying i get really upset.

Now i want "help" not humor =[ and its coming from a guy who is in pain so please.

- I shaved it once few years back and i think they have grown even thicker this time. %26lt;%26lt; dont think shaving would work

- Wax %26lt;%26lt; only temporary

- Laser hair removal %26lt;%26lt; I wanna know on this

a) is it effective ? b) is it toooo expensive ? c) One who has gone through it please tell your experience ? d) was it worthed or waste ?

Please i need help i need a solution cause its really bothering me and becoming a problem in my life which is not letting me do things which i wanna do honestly =[

Hairy butt?
Laser hair removal is very expensive and could possibly be dangerous especially on your behind. If you go into an actual person who does waxing they will be able to do it for you right. It will last 2 to 4 months and that I suppose will be better then what you are going through right now. A bit painful but worth it in the long run... Good luck
Reply:Well in your case, it sounds like the laser hair removal treatment is your only choice. Its a very expensive procedure, but think about how much more confident and comfortable you will be. Its effective, but sometimes it doesnt work and the hair can grow back. Electrology is another procedure that you can get done to make sure the hair is completley removed forever. I've never hadany of these procedures done myself, but I hear many people say it was worth their money.

:D
Reply:Yes, laser hair removal would be effective. The cost would be around $800-$1200 for 6 treatments depending on the situation. I didn't get it done where you thinking but yes it did work and it was very worth it.

Make sure you go to someone qualifed so that you don't waste your $$$. The attached sites can help.
Reply:i dont know much ab out it, but im pretty sure its expensive

i would suggest just clipping it?

not shaving it all the way down but maybe one a week getting the scissors and trimming it down its not so long
Reply:Let me explain how hair removal works. You shave it and it goes thicker, over time. Waxing , isn't just temporaily. When the hair is pulled from the root after awhile it stops growing. I have girlfriend's that had waxed eyebrows and legs. she ended up getting eyebrows tattooed because the hair growth had stopped. Waxing does work or There you can get an eplilady. It is machine you do it yourself. and it pulls your unwanted hair out. I really wouldn't try laser for awhile. There so many things that come out that years later after it's on the market you got some heatlh problem. 8Years ago, I almost a birth control that got recalled for causing cancer. Just to let you know my husband has 3 hairy patches on his back and a very hairy neck. I use VEET RAPID REMOVAL on him to remove hair when it gets hot. It is a lotion and takes 3 min. I have had the same botttle for a year and a half. Works great with NO PAIN! You can buy VEET at any store, I buy mine at Walmart- $3.50

Hope this helps!

Any one know how to do probabilities?

Researchers at a pharmaceutical company have found that the effective time duration of a safe dosage of a pain relief drug is normally distributed with mean 2 hours and standard deviation 0.3 hour. For a patient selected at random:

a) What is the probability that the drug will be effective for 2 hours or less?

b) What is the probability that the drug will be effective for 1 hour or less?

c) What is the probability that the drug will be effective for 3 hours or more?

Any one know how to do probabilities?
For any normal random variable X with mean μ and standard deviation σ , X ~ Normal( μ , σ ), (note that in most textbooks and literature the notation is with the variance, i.e., X ~ Normal( μ , σ² ). Most software denotes the normal with just the standard deviation.)

You can translate into standard normal units by:

Z = ( X - μ ) / σ

Where Z ~ Normal( μ = 0, σ = 1). You can then use the standard normal cdf tables to get probabilities.

If you are looking at the mean of a sample, then remember that for any sample with a large enough sample size the mean will be normally distributed. This is called the Central Limit Theorem.

If a sample of size is is drawn from a population with mean μ and standard deviation σ then the sample average xBar is normally distributed

with mean μ and standard deviation σ /√(n)

An applet for finding the values

http://www-stat.stanford.edu/~naras/jsm/...

calculator

http://stattrek.com/Tables/normal.aspx

how to read the tables

http://rlbroderson.tripod.com/statistics...

In this question we have

X ~ Normal( μx = 2 , σx² = 0.09 )

X ~ Normal( μx = 2 , σx = 0.3 )

Find P( X %26lt; 2 )

P( ( X - μ ) / σ %26lt; ( 2 - 2 ) / 0.3 )

= P( Z %26lt; 0 )

= 0.5

this is easy to find because for any normal random variable Y with mean μ, P(Y %26lt; μ) = P(Y %26gt; μ) = 0.5

Find P( X %26lt; 1 )

P( ( X - μ ) / σ %26lt; ( 1 - 2 ) / 0.3 )

= P( Z %26lt; -3.333333 )

= 0.0004290603

Find P( X %26gt; 3 )

P( ( X - μ ) / σ %26gt; ( 3 - 2 ) / 0.3 )

= P( Z %26gt; 3.333333 )

= P( Z %26lt; -3.333333 )

= 0.0004290603

P(X %26lt; 1) = P( X %26gt; 3) because you are looking at the area under the curve in the tails 3.33333... standard deviations above or below the mean.
Reply:Find the z-score then look up the probabilities on the chart in your book (standard normal probability tables)

Inducing and Ginger tea, I have two questions?

Hi, my first question is, what are the chances of an medically induced labor ending on a c-section? and second how effective is ginger tea to kick start labor? I'm 40 weeks today and schedule to be induced on the 5th if i dont go into labor on my on. Thanks

Anxiously waiting to meet my son

Inducing and Ginger tea, I have two questions?
I'm pretty sure your chances of a C-section after being induced are going to be about the same as if you went into labor naturally. However, babies who are induced, sometimes have more issues- because they're either breech, or by the time their induced, their heads too big- it's going to depend on your body, too. I had a friend who's Dr. let her go 15 days past her due date and she delivered a 10lb. 15oz. baby boy- vaginally. -My little girl came on her own 2 days early. But, both of my sons were induced. All 3 were born vaginally (and with no problems, at all). Like I said, it's going to depend on your body and your baby. I wouldn't worry about it, though. One way or another your baby's going to come out! : ) Good luck!
Reply:Ginger tea won't induce your labor unless it is "wild ginger" tea. Ginger and wild ginger are not the same plant.
Reply:I don't know about ginger tea, however, my midwife (who is wonderful) had me use drops of blue cohosh tincture to gently get things going when I was late. When my labor seemed to be going nowhere, she added a small bit of castor oil. Boy, did that do the trick. I don't recall the dosages. You should do research before using any of these and talk to your doctor.

Does anything other than SSRI's/ antidepressants help PMDD symptoms?

I can't take that crap b/c SSRI's are NOT effective %26amp; I suffer from other mental illnesses as well. Any1 know any "natural" or alternative ways to STOP the GD demon from attacking me %26amp; making mine %26amp; my friends/family's life a living hell. PMS should NOT last 2 weeks. Correct?

Does anything other than SSRI's/ antidepressants help PMDD symptoms?
To get the best possible advice, you should seek out a good herbalist in your region. They can take a full case history and find out exactly what is going on for you.

In the meantime, St John's wort (Hypericum perforatum) is as effective as Prozac for some depression, so worth a try. Also SAMe can help. Also fish oil - 6,000-10,000mg daily. I'd also recommend doing a lot of liver work - liver is implicated in both depression and hormone imbalances. Start by having a large glass of hot water with the juice of half a lemon every morning first thing. Cut out meat - especially chicken, dairy, alcohol, coffee, sugar and processed foods. Eat lots of fresh fruit and veg, nuts and legumes. Drink lots of clean water. You can add lemon juice or mint to make it more palatable.

Make sure you get good quality sleep, and try and do things, or mix with people who make you laugh. (See a funny movie - anything to make you laugh)

I know how awful it is to be in that state, and hope this can help you. All the best
Reply:You should look into YAZ a brand new low dose birth control pill which specifically addresses PMDD here is the site check it out what I have heard is that it is awesome for PMDD symptoms.

http://www.yaz.com/html/index.html
Reply:I feel for you. I have a severe case of PMDD myself, it came about after having a really bad case of PPD (postpartum depression) after my daughter was born. I had been on many meds for the PPD, but none of them helped at all with the PMDD.

I did have luck with Yaz. I know that you don't want to hear it, but it just MIGHT be promising to you. Not all bcp's affect women in the same way. It's always worth a shot. I'm no longer on any meds other than the Yaz and an occasional Ativan.

I wish you all the best, I hope that you are able to find something to relieve your PMDD symptoms. My symptoms start at ovulation time and end at around the time that my period begins.

Okay, I know this question has been asked a million times, but how are u supposed to breathe when you run?

Alot of ppl give alot of different answers. Some ppl say inhale through nose exhale through mouth, the opposite, or to follow your own breathing pattern.

I tried to inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth b/c everyone says its more effective but i always find myself out of breathe when i do that.

Inhaling through the mouth is much easier and is do-able, but i find myself breathing like a winded rhino.

So what i do is I take about 3-4 normal breathes, then in between i inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth. I found this technique to be exellent for me.

But i want your guys input. Is my technique good, or could i do something better?

Okay, I know this question has been asked a million times, but how are u supposed to breathe when you run?
Keep doing what you know works in everything you do. Im impressed that you ambition for running has you this focussed to ask questions! Wouldnt be surprised to see ya on the tube!
Reply:in throo the nose, out throo the mouth..

its the proven technique that never fails...

it also helps to set the rythm of ur breathing to your steps, like for every 2 steps, 1 breath
Reply:Breathe in through your nose, out through your mouth. What I normally do, is use the rythme of my feet hitting the pavement or treadmil. As they hit, approxamitely count 1, 2, in as you count, and 1, 2, out -- as you count. If you feel that's too little of a breathe and need more, just count 1, 2, 3 using the rythme of your feet, and breathe in -- as you count.

If, I were you, I would start practicing by just a light jog, and increase it as your rythme gets better. So, in actuality, it's about it all. Rythme and in through your nose and out through your mouth. Plus, in a way you're training your body how to breathe right, so don't get discouraged. Maybe even practice on a treadmill, that way you control the speed you're going at. Then, make it a goal each day to increase the speed.
Reply:I'm no runner, but it sounds like your technique is working for you. Go with what you are comfortable with.
Reply:Naturally. No seriously. You breathe however it is natural for you. If you are really exerting yourself, you will breathe through your mouth. Naturally.

I used to swim, and I always try to breathe in a rhythm, but I'm told not to worry about it.
Reply:you are the one that really knows your breathing patterns and seeing others trying to tell you is like a robot doing repeats.
Reply:i just run and breath at the same time, at some points, my chest starts hurting because i need to stop to get some air but you get air when you run!
Reply:I think you are correct in finding the best breathing pattern that works for you. I liked 2 breaths in 2 breaths out - one on each step when running a farely fast pace. The reccomendation of breathing in through the nose is supposed to be for allowing the inherent filtering and warming of the air, but I also could only do this in limited durations. I have exercise induced asthma and severe allergies but I was one of the fastest and average duration runners when I was in the military. Just try various patterns and your performance and lungs will pick the most effective breathing for you. :)
Reply:There really is no special technique. Everyone is different soo we all have our special different ways of how we breathe and etc. You shouldn't breathe too much too fast if you dont wanna die. When I run I just shake my head if I'm getting tired to me it's like getting back on my horse and spanking it. I always tried inhaling through my nose and exhaling through mouth but it kinda sucks. You get less air breathing in and you lose more when you breathe out through your mouth. I take medium sized amount of mouth inhales then a good amount of exhaling through my nose. Not too much cause I would lose air.
Reply:If you've found something that works for you, then stick with it. Personally, I inhale through my mouth, but that's because I have sinus issues and if I tried to inhale through my nose while running, I'd pass out due to lack of oxygen.

The best technique is the one that works best for YOU.
Reply:I just find take deeper breaths through the mouth works best. Your windpipe is a lot wider through the mouth than the nose. Even if you're breathing like a "winded rhino", if you're breathing hard it means you're getting lots of oxygen to your lungs and therefore into your blood.

Now if you find yourself -panting-, that is breathing shallower and struggling for breath, uhm, stop. That's really bad for you. Or at least slow down and take bigger breaths. It may feel silly, swallowing huge gulps of air, but you keep your blood oxygenated and that keeps your muscles going.
Reply:you breath through your nose out your mouth

you wont get cramps as easily because it regulates your breathing better. it worked for me

theirs a small chance im wrong
Reply:inhale from the mouth and exhale from the nose.

Please answer the below?

A situation in which an engineering technician serves on a product design team with customer service and financial specialists demands?

A. adequate machinery.

B. sophistated design practices.

C. top-down management.

D. effective communication.

Please answer the below?
D. effective communication.. as in he should be able to communicate his ideas properly to customer service and financial specialist.. which can be done by effective communication.
Reply:D. Effective Communication

Because an engineer, a customer service and a financial specialist will have different interests and objectives in mind. So effective communication is a must to successfully address differences and get everyone to come together under one common objective. That's not easy. So effective communication is a must.

Basically, I am not a technician, not a customer service and not a financial specialist. But I see the objective of a product design team will be based on what the customers need. If the customers need better service as the 1st priority, better product quality as the 2nd priority and cheaper price as the 3rd priority, then the team should work based on these priorities. Instead of letting any party in the team to dominate and impose their own priorities.
Reply:effective communication
Reply:top down management %26amp; effective communication

a.the recipient of a memo is always the only person to read that memo.

b.personnel-related memos have a short life.

c.a memo is an effective means of confronting employees about problems.

d.a memo is useful tool to provide a record of communication.

Select the correct statement about memos.?
d. It's the only one that's true.
Reply:B
Reply:The answer is not A because someone else could easily pick a memo up off of a recipient's desk and read it.

The answer is not B because personnel-related memos actually need to be kept to make a paper trail.

The answer is not C because you need to have an open line of communication when confronting employees, not a directive note.

The answer IS D because memos can be kept to prove that a message was relayed.
Reply:C is correct~~
Reply:i would say that only D is correct.

YouTube is a $1,000,000,000,000 company. You are fooling yourself if you think you're going to get a script even in the same ballpark for

As for the disk space issue, you going to need to pay an arm and a leg to host and provide bandwidth for a video sharing site.

Sorry, but this just isn't gonna happen.

Statistics help!! Thanks!!!?

Problem 19)

Researchers at a pharmaceutical company have found that the effective time duration of a safe dosage of a pain relief drug is normally distributed with mean 2 hours and standard deviation 0.3 hour. For a patient selected at random:

a) What is the probability that the drug will be effective for 2 hours or less?

b) What is the probability that the drug will be effective for 1 hour or less?

c) What is the probability that the drug will be effective for 3 hours or more?

Statistics help!! Thanks!!!?
a is 50% since 2 is the mean

b is 3 1/3 standard deviations below the mean and c is 3 1/3 above. They will each have the same probability which you can look up in a normal probability chart (look up 3.33 then subtract from 0.5000)
Reply:a) If the mean is two hours, then there is a 50% or 1/2 chance that the drug will be effective for 2 hours or less.

b) I'll assume that your .3 is 1/3 hour or 20 min. One hour would be 3 standard deviations from the mean, where .15% of occurences are. So, .15/100 or 15/10000 or 3/2000 chance.

c) The exact same as b) where you are three standard devations from the mean. 3/2000

In 2003, did the find anything in iraq?

In 2003, it was discovered that Iraq:

a. had the second-largest arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in the world.

b. used some of its chemical weapons against the U.S. and allied forces, such as England.

c. had almost developed an effective nuclear device and the means to deliver it.

d. apparently never had large numbers of WMDs.

In 2003, did the find anything in iraq?
Just before "Shock and Awe" (bombing of the capital city: Baghdad) the U.N. inspectors were ordered out of Iraq in mid-March 2003 when the Bush-Cheney administration declared it would invade from outposts in Kuwait and topple the Saddam %26amp; sons regime then holding Iraq's population under its figurative "thumbs"

during April - Dec. 2003 "they" (the U.S. and coalition forces) did find

If you are on birth control, when is it most possible for a pregnancy to happen?

Obviously the whole point of birth control is to NOT get pregnant. Just curious to see when it is the most possible. You know that whole reason why they say b.c. is only 99.99% effective. When is that whole .01% that you can get pregnant?

If you are on birth control, when is it most possible for a pregnancy to happen?
I think that most women find that birth control pills fail when they miss one or when they do not take them consistently at the same time. I also think that some women are just naturally more fertile than others and since birth control pills just come in one dosage (unless they switch to a different one) it is hard to know that it is not working before hand.
Reply:i dont think that there is a specific time that its not effective. Just sometimes it doesnt work. But if your nervous then dont have sex around day 14 of your cycle. Day 1 being the first day of your period.

Tell me something I don't know (spellers)?

Okay this spelling thing is HARD.

sorry but i have received best answers and even had questions that others tell me how bad my spelling is!

if they were truly cared why wouldn't they offer words of wisdom instead of pointing out the given?

I see on here so many times people making judgment like (you can't spell or take a class in English ect.) yet not many people try to help... if something bugs you this much to point out what one already knows why not help! more people would start to apply it! right?

Thanks for asking this question how ever your spelling confuses me did you mean to say recieve or receive ?

a little tip to help "i comes before e except after c" hard to remember but effective!

I understand some spelling and grammar is WAY out there and you can fix all of it your not a editor of y/a. but a little is better then you suck as spelling!

so my question is why don't the good spellers and grammar people help instead of complain and point out the given?

Tell me something I don't know (spellers)?
The people who leave the messages saying "You suck at spelling," are going for points and/or are trying to be rude. Ignore those answers, they're just being obnoxious and trying to get you frustrated.

Every now and then, you'll luck out and get a few who will tell you what you misspelled and give you the correct spelling to help you along. Embrace those, and know that most of them are not trying to show off or mock you...learn from them.

When in doubt (and to ward off those annoying "youcan'tspell" answers), just copy and paste your question into your word processor to "spell check" before you post. That'll shut 'em up! ;)
Reply:hmm ur spelling looks perfectly fine on here..
Reply:You are absolutely right. I have seen that myself. As for me, the irritation comes only when the answer is way out of the limit even to understand, and not for silly things like ''spellings'' or slight grammatical errors. I myself, and the people out there too are not perfect, so there is no point in them pointing out silly things they (any normal human) really dont have to bother with or like you said, yes, they could correct if its something thats bothering them so much. This is internet, and we try to be quick or as short as possible, and in that process sometimes miss. Many people tend to judge by either saying you are illiterate, or you do not have an IQ level, but I very much doubt on these people who have time for really silly things, on their IQ level. For a person to be on Yahoo Answers, a casual and fun place for people to interact, give suggestions, they shouldnt be here, they should be in some boring grammar class. Or perhaps they are very very ancient people who really have a problem coming in terms with the new technology, new words, new ways of typing a message.....grammar gap ? Your question had a point, and I fully agree with you. As long as your question conveys the message, there is really no need to dig on your commas and a slight mistake such as recieve or receive....yes, you may have mispelt, and if that has irritated someone, all they have to do is correct you or anyone who did, but that again would be so silly not because the person is correcting you, but whoever it is has an awful lot of time in his hands to sit and look at all the little letters you may have missed. Forget it, and you have sent your message, ignore the boring petty losers.
Reply:there are times and words the "check spelling" will not have in its vocabulary, then one needs to resort to the Dictionary either at home or the ABC \/ (check)on the Toolbar. Most understood misspelling are no big offense, and can be understood, however occasionally one runs into some that are just too much when trying to decode what is being said. I tend to ignore, what I cannot really understand
Reply:I generally ignore spelling mistakes. If there are only one or two, I read on, but if there are a lot, I go to a different question, because a badly spelled post is too hard to read.

It is my firm opinion that spelling well or badly is genetic. In my own family, both my birth family and my married family, being able to spell well seems to have nothing at all to do with IQ, and spelling poorly is -extremely- hard to overcome.
Reply:Well the problem isn't you it's our language. It has all sorts of rules but they are often broken so the only people who be great spellers and linguists know most or all of these nuances. I can't believe i just used that word (nuance) but it fits...Good luck
Reply:Do you think that a good fairy waved a wand to make good spellers, or what?

People who spell well study to learn...you should do this too.
Reply:There's a "check spelling" button, so many people feel like spelling mistakes are unacceptable on Yahoo Answers.

I don't feel that way, but I admit if the spelling is out of control I tend to skip the question. If you have a lot of mistakes, you're going to attract the people who go on the attack for it, and miss the ones who don't care as much but find it too exhausting to get through multiple mistakes.

If i just recently re-started birthcontrol, how long should i wait to have sex again?

I was recently put back on b.c. via dr. orders, and hubby is due to come back from iraq. I was wondering if me being on the b.c. 1-2 weeks was effective as it was when i was continuously on it for 2-3yrs. My drs. office has a 4-5 day turn around for phone calls, so I will get the answer late. thanks to any that know, and yes, we are planning to use 'back up ' just incase!

If i just recently re-started birthcontrol, how long should i wait to have sex again?
When started within 6 days of the start of a period The Pill is effective immediately. If the Pill is started at other times, it will be effective after one month.

Good luck with the hubby.. Don't wear him out in the first day..

My husband is leaving for Iraq in 10 days...
Reply:Ive always been told to use protection until you finish the new pack. Except for the one time I went to a military hospital and they didnt tell me anything!! lol
Reply:1 full cycle on the pill and you should be fine.
Reply:The pill reaches effective levels in your blood when you have had an active pill each day for seven days in a row. (Doesn't matter how long you've been on it before, or how long you were off it.) So you are protected after taking it for at least a full week. If you start it on day 1-5 for your period then you are protected immediately. American doctors will often tell you to wait a whole cycle, but that's just because they don't want to be sued.

Has anyone used...?

La Roche-Posay Active-C Eyes? Was it an effective eye cream for you? And if you have not used it, then plz suggest an effective eye cream that works to reduce dark circles, and fine lines under the eye.

Thx.

Has anyone used...?
I like Philosophy dark shadow cream. It comes in two part one to fade the dark shadow. The second helps with moisturizing the eye area and wrinkles.

Two physics questions on circular motion?

1.A 1900 kg car rounds a curve of radius 70 m banked at an angle of 12°. If the car is traveling at 84 km/h, will a friction force be required?

yes

no

If so, how much force? (Enter zero if there is no friction force

2.A jet pilot takes his aircraft in a vertical loop

(a) If the jet is moving at a speed of 1700 km/h at the lowest point of the loop, determine the minimum radius of the circle so that the centripetal acceleration at the lowest point does not exceed 6.0 g's.

(b) Calculate also the 78 kg pilot's effective weight (the force with which the seat pushes up on him) at the bottom of the circle.

(c) Calculate the pilot's effective weight at the top of the circle. (Assume the same speed.)

Two physics questions on circular motion?
1. the centripetal force needed is mv^2/r = 1900*(84*1000/3600)^2/70 = 1.48*10^4 N

if no friction, the resultant of gravity and the normal force is mgtan(12) = 1900*9.8*tan(12) = 3.96*10^3 N %26lt; 1.48*10^4 N

so friction force f is required where f cos(12) = 1.48*10^4 N - 3.96*10^3 N = 1.08*10^4 N

f = 1.10*10^4 N

2. a) v^2/r = 6g

r = v^2/(6g) = (1700*1000/3600)^2/(6*9.8) = 3.8*10^3 m

b) F - mg = mv^2/r = 6mg

F = 7mg = 7*70*9.8 = 4.8*10^3 N

c) F + mg = 6mg

F = 5mg = 5*70*9.8 = 3.4*10^3 N

Physics help please a.s.a.p?

A jet pilot takes his aircraft in a vertical loop

(a) If the jet is moving at a speed of 1900 km/h at the lowest point of the loop, determine the minimum radius of the circle so that the centripetal acceleration at the lowest point does not exceed 6.0 g's.

____m

(b) Calculate also the 72 kg pilot's effective weight (the force with which the seat pushes up on him) at the bottom of the circle.

____N

(c) Calculate the pilot's effective weight at the top of the circle. (Assume the same speed.)

____N

Physics help please a.s.a.p?
a) a = v^2/r

6 x 9.8 = (1900/3.6)^2 / r

r = 4737m

b) Fe = mg + mv^2/r

Fe = 72 x 9.8 + 72 x 6 x 9.8

Fe = 4939N (effectively 7g's)

c) Fe = mv^2/r - mg (effectively 5g's)

Fe = 72 x 5 x 9.8 = 3528N
