d) all of the above

A diffusion test uses paper discs placed on the surface of growth medium inoculated with a specific amount of the bacterium. The paper disc have been impregnated with the antibiotic being investigated. If the antibiotic works, there will be a 'zone of inhibition.' The size of the zone is proportional to the efficacy of the antibiotic.

A dilution test determines how much of the antibiotic determined to be the most effective it will take to kill the bacterium.

Accepted methods for testing can be found in USP.
