i just started the shot 1 week ago, the day my period started i took the shot! i was informed by the doctor that it is effective right away if you start it on your period. and if you start it after your period you have to use protection for a month. i just had a baby boy 10 weeks ago. that makes 4 for me. right now i realy dont want to get pregnant. is the doctor right am i safe right now?

The b.c shot- 1 week later unprotected sex- can i get pregnant?
anytime you have sexual intercourse you have a chance of getting pregnant!
Reply:You need to use protection for a month after your first shot. I'm an RN and have administered Depo Provera for years, and that is a rule of thumb, to use protection the first month after your first shot.
Reply:try askinghim to wear a rubber until your shot can take effect up to 6 week check with dr
Reply:If you're having sex, there's always a chance of conception. If your doctor said you would be protected, why wouldn't you believe him and ask the internet? I don't remember my doctor telling me to use protection for a month (I got the shot at the start of my period). If you are really done having babies, you should consider tubal ligation and/or vasectomy. Still not 100% but it's a permanent solution.
Reply:Don't listen to everybody on this issue go to the specialist and ask Ok?
Reply:No matter what kind of chemical bc you use, it is still possible to get pregnant. If you have the necessary organs, it is ALWAYS possible to get pregnant (just less likely for some). If you are concerned about getting pregnant, use a condom for the first month.

You should be fine, but I suggest a condom for the first month.
