How to get around D.C.?

My hubby and I are leaving Tuesday for Washington DC and won't be renting a car. What is the best way to get around? We'll have luggage to take with us to and from the airport, but otherwise it'll just be touring and sightseeing. What's cost effective?

How to get around D.C.?
The metro is pretty good. A day pass is only 6.50 and it will get you to the good sights in DC.

have a great time!
Reply:Subway. I'm from Texas and went to DC on a trip. It was fabulous. Also used the Metro a couple of times.
Reply:busses.
Reply:subway
Reply:The subway system in Washington is excellent. It is well-lit, kept clean and can get you to all the places you need to go.
Reply:I go to DC all the time and always use the subway (known as the Metro) whenever possible. The airport has a Metro stop that can take you directly to your hotel (call ahead to figure out which Metro stop they recommend). And someone else already mentioned daypasses - a great saver and a good excuse to sleep in a little on the weekdays! (you can't get them until after "morning rush hour")
