Which one of the following sentences represents an example of an effective definition?

A. An animal is a living creature that is not human.

B. An animal is different from a vegetable or mineral.

C. All animals are the same in some ways, yet different in others.

D. An animal is a living creature that moves and ingests food through a mouth.

Which one of the following sentences represents an example of an effective definition?
I would guess either B or C, or both.
Reply:D, it says what an animal is (all the others merely say what it is not). Note, most of these definitions are technically wrong
Reply:animals have the ability to make voluntary movement

animals take food into an internal cavity or stomach for digestion (I do not know if all have "mouth.")

animals take in oxygen in the process of respiration

All of the 4 choices have elements of truth. If I had to choose only one, I would select "D."
