Can you clean your home A/C air filters this way?

A hardware store salesman told me that until the new shipment of my size air filters comes in I can take the filters to a gas station air pump and blow out all the filth with the air pump.

Does anyone with expertise in heating and air filters know if this is safe and effective to do?

Can you clean your home A/C air filters this way?
Probably better running water through the filter clean side through to the dirty side, then letting it air dry. This way you don't damage the fibers in the filter. Definintaly do get a new filter when possible though.
Reply:It'll work but it's awfully messy;-{ for you %26amp; the environment.

Try going to the car-wash %26amp; using the commercial vacuum.

Suck from the dirty side of course.
Reply:Try another store. You can blow them out but you'll blow the fibers apart
Reply:temporarily sure. its good you worry about your filters bc its the single most important thing a homeowner can do to add longevity and performance to your furnace
Reply:then you can take a vacuum hose to it also, which is cheaper.
Reply:Take in the backyard and just hose it clean, let it dry and put it back in place. If you have a A/c unit inside a cabinet in the wall or window you can take the unit out,or get the boyfriend/hubby to lift it and hose it clean twice a year helps to last longer and works better. ciao 4 now.
