What do you think is the most effective type of test or exam? Please explain the answer.?
It depends on what the purpose of your test is. For most tests you have a lot of them to grade, so anything that has a specific answer and could be graded by an aide or a computer would be more efficient, so multiple choice usually works best. That is, as long as you know how to properly construct a good multiple choice question. A properly constructed multiple choice question can descriminate between those people who understand the content and those who don't. In addition, if the distractors are chosen with common fallacies in mind, then their incorrect choice can tell you more about what they don't understand, how to help them learn the material.
Reply:Enumeration is the most effective because no clues are given as in a multiple choice, matching, or identification. I have a problem with puzzle tests. At Princeton it was demonstrated these exams favor certain favored groups, with little validity.

Another reason for enumeration is the subject has to be known to be written about. The instructor looks for certain key points to grade and may or may not include punctuation and grammar as part of the exam. this is why most universities require blue book essays in the exam procedure. Some professors, understanding that some students freeze when writing exams, include multiple choice as part of the overall grade.
Reply:The only type of exam that can accurately determine the tester's knowledge of the subject is identification. However, this method is not as easy to measure/grade. While multiple choice provides an easy way to measure knowledge, it does not always provide the most accurate results because many times the test gives away its own answers, and you can use process of elimination to determine answers. As for the others,I believe they are ineffective because they do not provide the tester with enough opportunities to prove his/her knowledge of the subject.
