Negative Ads Campaigns Effective?

Do you think that voters would know who to choose if all the politicians chose to show all positive things about themselves in ad campaigns.

Don't negative ads point out the problem in a plan and help us make decision to who to vote for?

Because on some level we DONT know how the government works or how decisions being made effect us until they are done.

For example: How can we know which energy plan will work the best for us, since we aren't in the government or I the inner circle.

I hope this questions makes sense, b/c I hard a hard time putting it into words.

Negative Ads Campaigns Effective?
Instead of positive or negative ads, the candidates should try running some neutral ads and see how that works, hey it's worth a shot right
Reply:Negative ads work. Much more than positive rah-rah ones.

The difficulty is that there are LEGITIMATE "negative"ads that point out flaws in your opponents proposals and platforms

and NASTY "negative" ads that attack an opponent personally or misrepresent his statements or proposals.

People who support candidates have to learn to distinguish between fair and unfair negative attacks. Obama supporters are now complaining about ANY ad referencing Rev. Wright but have no problems with the ad campaigns mocking McCain's age, which they think are funny.

One of THE most reliable places to fact check so-called "negative" ads is FactCheck.org which is completely fair and will call out Democrats and Republicans for unfair shots in advertising when they misrepresent the truth.

Reply:Great question.

I think some voters would spend more time to think over to make sure their vote was correct, though i believe negative ads make some people jump to conclusions.

We do know how the government works we just choose to ignore what we want. For example the gas tax holiday is a bad idea, we all know it but not many people will be affected by it because the have the wrong priorities for the criteria of a god president.

We know right from wrong

We know what is a gimmick and what is genuine.

Unfortunately we all just choose to see what we want.
Reply:Most candidates only call an ad negative when it exposes a lie they actually told or a real weakness they want to hide.

A good example of Barack's problem;

Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no longer wears a flag pin, presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

"As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides," Obama said. "There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it. '
Reply:Negative campaign ads are the most effective form of political advertising. If I were managing a campaign, I would go with 100% negative ads, but they would end with my guy saying "I don't approve of this message, but they talked me into letting them run it"

If we had decent people who had nothing to hide running for office, they would'nt have a problem with negative ads.
Reply:If it was not for the Negative ads, We would not know about Obamas past. Yes, he says he doesn't believe all that stuff (YEAH! OK) but read his book and the other characters he hangs with. They all think the same thing. Coincidence? ARE YOU SERIOUS? Thats like your friends for 20 years do drugs, and you get asked about it and you say oh I just hang out with them, I don't do it or sell it? DUH!!!So, I think you need the bad and the good, there really should not BE that much bad?
Reply:There are a lot of arguments about the impact of negative campaign ads but, at the end of the day, they are used because voters are very easily impacted by them.
Reply:When I see negative add campains, one politician against another, it either does not affect me or makes me think less of the politician putting down the other one.
Reply:I don't think polticians care as much for answers to specific questions as they do about saying things that they think people want to hear. An example: "No child should be left behind" or "It takes a village".
Reply:The negative ads work very well, but you have to be careful not to overdo it becuse it can backfire.
